Overview

As an excellent advanced program in practical turning, this course builds on a candidates turning experience and introduces them to a number of more complicated turning operations. Instruction takes place both in the classroom and in SETA’s fully equipped workshop.

Participants

This course is designed for those with an understanding of turning principles and practice or who have attended Course No. 501 - Introduction to Turning.

• Safety relevant to turning
• Assessment exercise: - 3-jaw chuck exercises to determine candidate standard
• Basic turning refresher:- measuring instruments, cutting tools and coolants
• Turning operations:- 4-jaw chucks; in-between centres; face plate (special set-up using counter weights); fixed steady; travelling steady; taper turning (compound slide, offset tailstock, T.T.A.); screwcutting
• Faults recognition: - guidance on turning faults and means of avoiding them
