Multi Skilled Machining
Breakdown of the four year apprenticeship programme
Year One
Six months off the job training in the training centre leading to NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO), Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2, Technical Certificate and an introduction to Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR)
Six months training at Seta Ltd will cover:
Mandatory Units
- Working safely in an engineering environment.
2. Working efficiently and effectively in engineering.
3. Using and communicating technical information.
Machining
1. Manual Turning.
2. Manual Milling.
3. Programming &operation of CNC Milling – Heidenhain.
4. Programming & operation of CNC Turning – Fanuc.
5. Surface grinding to include safe work-holding and safe use of machine.
Optional extra
- Bench Fitting.
The Key Skills programme will cover:
1. Working With Others.
2. Improving own learning.
The Functional Skills will cover:
1. English.
2. Mathematics.
3. Information &Communication Technology.
Technical Certificate
The Technical Certificate is typically the BTEC National Certificate and is covered by day release at college, one day per week for two years.
Employment Rights and Responsibilities
The ERR programme will begin in the Centre and be completed when the apprentice returns to the employer.
1. Statutory Rights and Responsibilities (Contracts and conditions of employment)
2. Procedures and Documentation (Health and safety, sickness etc.)
3. Representative Bodies (Trade unions, Training support bodies)
Upon completion of the six months off the job programme the apprentice returns to the employer to commence the on the job training programme to meet the requirements of the selected NVQ Level 3 programme. This programme will be selected by the employer with guidance from Seta.
Year Two
The apprentice continues to gain knowledge and experience of the practical aspect of the job in preparation for assessment of the competences outlined in the NVQ Level 3 programme.
Continued attendance at college leading to the successful completion of the Technical Certificate.
Years Three and Four
Further on the job experience and skills development leading to the successful completion of the NVQ Level 3 programme.
SETA staff will visit the apprentices on a regular basis to conduct assessments and provide support and guidance throughout the whole apprenticeship programme.
