Apprenticeships

What employers need to know

Seta's apprenticeship programmes will help your business

Seta has been delivering specialist engineering training for more than 50 years. We have played a key role in developing and transforming workforces in the North East and beyond, having trained thousands of apprentices.

Our apprenticeships are trusted by SMEs, major regional employers and some of the world’s biggest organisations, such as Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Liebherr.

We can support your business through delivering high quality apprenticeship programmes, and preparing apprentices for the real world of work, giving your business skilled, motivated and confident employees.

Apprentices have the opportunity to progress to an HNC / HTQ in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or they can access this alongside their Seta apprenticeship in years 3 and 4.

Apprenticeship programmes at Seta

Apprentices train at our engineering training centre in Washington, Tyne and Wear for at least six months, giving them an excellent grounding in engineering and practical skills that are needed in industry.

They’ll be taught by engineering specialists who have relevant industry experience, who’ve ‘been there and done that’ and in many cases, have been apprentices themselves. We treat our apprentices like employees rather than students and create a ‘real life’ working environment where they’ll train, hands-on, using industry standard equipment. All of this ensures they can go into your workplace with the skills they need.

We’ll work closely with you to teach your specific methods and processes which, in turn, reduces overall training and recruitment costs and provides a financial return for your investment. Indeed, as a not-for-profit organisation, we always have your interests at the heart of what we do, and we can develop apprenticeship programmes tailored to your needs.

We offer in-house assessment and technical certification, helping to ease your own workload and we will work closely with you throughout the apprenticeship process, providing guidance and support.

And our location in the heart of the region allows easy access from both the A1 and A19 road links, with Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and Middlesbrough all nearby.

Why Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are a positive, practical and cost effective investment for your company and training your apprentices with Seta will produce long term benefits for your business, allowing it to develop a skilful and highly qualified workforce, while nurturing talent and practical skills in the next generation. Furthermore, apprentices can bring with them enthusiasm, dedication, loyalty and new ideas, which can help your company to innovate, grow and become more competitive.

Our engineering apprenticeships benefit from a high level of training, delivered by qualified, highly experienced staff. This enables ‘hands-on’ learning and means the students acquire practical skills for use in industry. In addition, our business and professional apprenticeships, which cover administration, team leading, and management enable you either upskill current staff or take on apprentices in a range of roles and build your workforce for the future.

How do Seta support recruitment?

Seta runs an extensive Information and Guidance (IAG) programme in schools and other education provision. This has resulted in a large number of tested and interviewed applicants with very strong results in our assessment tests now available for interview.

Based on your requirements Seta can advertise, produce a shortlist of suitable candidates from our extensive database, arrange interviews from your selection to meet your timescales and complete all related paperwork, giving you the freedom to select the most suitable candidates without the administration that goes with it. Alternatively, we can support your recruitment if you wish to recruit directly.

Seta is officially rated as a ‘good’ training provider by Ofsted. To read more about the standards of our training read our latest Ofsted report here.
